School of Dentistry has an outstanding opportunity for Research Scientist/Engineer 1.

The Department of Oral Health Sciences at the School of Dentistry brings together faculty from different ends of the dental and oral health research spectrum into a single department that has expertise ranging from the modern experimental life sciences through the public health and behavioral sciences. OHS faculty teach in the pre-doctoral dental curriculum and offer the School of Dentistry’s only MS / PhD graduate degree program. The graduate program also offers a DDS-PhD dual degree track as well as an MS degree track for dental hygienists. Oral Health Sciences is committed to providing a welcoming and inclusive environment.

The Research Scientist 1 must be able to work independently and with limited oversight on multiple aspects of large research projects. The research scientist will be responsible conducting studies, maintaining regulatory compliance, and supervising student volunteers. This individual will assist the investigative team to conduct basic science research with non-human primates to study the neuromechanical control of orofacial sensorimotor behavior.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain animal health records and protocol forms

  • Monitor animal health, surgery preparation and assistance

  • Training of nonhuman primates for behavioral tasks

  • Assist in performing experiments and data collection

  • Data post-processing and analysis

  • Perform various other duties as necessary for the functioning of the laboratory


  • MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience, Biological Sciences, Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent

  • Minimum of one-year relevant research experience


  • Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Programming skills in Matlab/Python

  • Experience in training non-human primates (macaques)

  • Experience in using CANTAB system;

  • XROMM data post-processing.
