Role Overview

The Business Development Associate is an important member of the business development team. The Business Development Associate’s primary role is to help grow sales outside of the company’s traditional customer base with new “non-traditional” retailers. These should include medium to large customers in any industry found suitable for creative supplies, with a focus on mass market retailers. This position reports directly to the Business Development Manager.

This is a full-time, exempt position working Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 EST. The salary range is $57,100.00 - $69,900.00 annually (this salary range can change up/down based on the geographic location data analysis) plus 14 days paid vacation in the first year.

Job Description:

  • Manage customers to meet sales targets
  • Manage customer price competitiveness, assortment, and stock offering
  • Become an industry expert and immerse yourself in product knowledge and brand strategies.
  • Conduct market research, develop strategies, build customer relationships, and identify new opportunities with existing and potential customers
  • Familiarize yourself with the company's vision, seeking to accomplish set goals and objectives
  • Clear and concise communications are a must, as well as the ability to adapt solutions for the different needs of each customer
  • Work directly with customers to help close deals when needed, so you must have excellent customer service skills and a strong understanding of MacPherson’s products and services
  • Work closely and collaborate with staff across departments to implement growth strategies
  • Maintain data integrity in customer portal
  • Track inventory for orders and verify that those orders ship on time
  • Develop and implement sales strategies, client service and retention plans, and analyze sales data to inform or update marketing strategies
  • Assist with drafting business plans, sales pitches, presentations, reference material, and other documents as required
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and meet deadlines
  • Identify new business opportunities and partners

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of business and/or business development experience
  • Must understand the business of retail and best practices

Preferred Qualifications

  • A background in sales, marketing, and merchandising is strongly desirable.
  • Prior experience with mass market retailers.
  • 4 year college degree in business or related field.

  • Well-versed in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Frequent travel may be required
