Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
University Libraries is seeking an exceptional student to fill our Wayfinding and Signage Assistant position. This position will support the Libraries’ Strategic Communications and Outreach Team’s work to audit, catalog and redesign the physical wayfinding and informational signage in McKeldin Library. This position will report to the Senior Graphic Designer.

Responsibilities of the Position:
  • Assist in development of signage catalog and categorization process
  • Catalog and categorize various types of signs throughout McKeldin Library to identify needs and track replacement progress
  • Assist in development of signage style guide and best practices
  • Review findings from user experience studies and survey existing literature to inform recommendations on placement and content of signage
  • Assist with conducting and analyzing additional user research, if needed
  • Assist with design, production and installation of signs
  • Perform spot maintenance on McKeldin wall spaces, including foam tape removal, as needed

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Must be currently enrolled Maryland undergraduate or graduate students.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong sense of organization and ability to work with a large amount of complex data.
  • Skilled with intermediate functionality in Excel/Google Sheets.
  • Familiarity with basic visual design principles, design software such as Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Thorough attention to detail and dedication to producing quality work.
  • Self-motivated; able to work independently but proactive in seeking guidance and direction when needed.


Conditions of Employment:
Ability to work 10-12 hours per week.

  • Pursuing a degree in architecture, graphic design or information sciences.
  • Familiarity with library programs and services.

Physical Demands
Normal office duties with prolong usage of computer and computer screen. Must be able to traverse through the building. Work will require frequently accessing all levels of building (elevator available) and light physical labor.
