POSTION OVERVIEW
Direct the provision of high-quality nutrition services and nutrition promotion and education for infants, toddlers, and families. Assists Health/MH/Nutrition Manager in the development and oversight of the Child and Adult Care Food Program application and it’s implementation by providing training and technical assistance to program and center staff. Collaborate with community partners, parents, and nutrition providers in advancing healthy nutrition awareness and education
This position also supports the provision of medical and dental health services for all enrolled children.
Assure compliance with the Head Start Performance Standards pertaining to Health including applicable state health regulations. Adhere to best health care principles and practices. Establish/maintain comprehensive recordkeeping and reporting and data collection systems. Interaction with children, staff, parents, and the larger community is also required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Engage in comprehensive, integrated planning with management team:
Assist in the development of policies and procedure for the Nutrition System and its implementation.
Assist with the development and administration of the CACFP budget and assures fiscal integrity with the guidance of the Health/MH/Nutrition Manager
Assists with the CACFP annual compliance evaluation
Assist in the assessment of community, program, child, and family health care needs and available resources.
Assist with the collection of data for the Community Assessment.
Assist with the annual program self-assessment and federal onsite review process, focused on the holistic health care system; report on strengths, recommendations, required improvements; implement improvements and recommendations; incorporate into program planning process.
Collaborate with Health/Mental Health Manager and Family/Community Partnership Manager to assure achievement of nutrition services goals and outcomes for children and families.
Collaborates with the Health/MH/Nutrition Manager in the assessment, development, and implementation of a training and technical assistance program for addressing nutrition safety practices in compliance with Head Start Performance Standards and Child and Adult Care Regulations.
Collaborate with the Health/MH/Nutrition Manager on the assessment of community, program, child, and family nutritional needs and available resources; compile and analyze data, produce reports, assure the integration of children with disabilities, dual language learners, homeless children and children in foster care.
Participate in the Health Services Advisory Committee and maintain ongoing collaborative relationships with community organizations responsive to the nutrition wellness of infants and toddlers and their families.
Assist with Health trainings.
JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Direct, monitor and report the daily and timely delivery of food services to children ensuring compliance with regulatory documentation and timelines; analyze and report
Assures and maintains a kitchen that complies with all regulations regarding equipment, space, kitchen tools, and safety practices. Conducts periodic kitchen inspections.
Assist in maintaining, monitoring, and documenting a system for food purchase, delivery, inventory, and use.
Participate in individual child review meetings; participate in planning and developing an Individualized Nutrition Plan (INP) for children with nutrition concerns.
Assist teachers with medication administration when necessary.
Conduct month inventory of first aid kits.
Become proficient in the use of the Child Plus Data System to monitor and follow-up as appropriate to assure that each enrolled child has a medical and dental “home" and health insurance.
Monitor and follow-up as appropriate to assure infants and toddlers are up-to-date on all scheduled Early Periodic Screening, Diagnosis, and Treatment (EPSDT) requirements, including immunizations, well-baby checks, vision and hearing screen, nutrition assessments, lead and hemoglobin tests and dental exams, by monthly reviews of each child’s data on the Child Plus Data System.
Assist in conducting and tracking timely hearing and vision screenings for children and assure second evaluations for all who fail initial screenings or who are thought to have a disability.
Assist in the referral process for families to access medical assistance, the child health insurance program (CHIP), community health care services and system, applications to WIC and SNAP for nutrition services, needed social services, and monitor the tracking and documentation of all referrals.
Assist in conducting health/safety trainings and health education events.
Help families identify and access community nutrition services and systems.
Refer parents to WIC and SNAP for nutrition services, track, and report.
Help parents understand, plan, and serve economical, nutritious meals and understand and prevent childhood obesity; refer parents for more intense support as needed.
Completes other related activities and duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ability to see at normal distance, hear normal conversations and sounds and use hands and fingers to fill out required forms. Ability to lift infants and toddlers weighing up to forty (40) pounds, twenty (20) pounds overhead and forty (40) pounds from waist to shoulder; occasional lifting of fifty (50) pounds is required and must be able to push/pull up to fifty pounds horizontally. Ability to sit on the floor, bend at the waist, kneel and/or stoop 75% of the time.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Nurse Assistant or Medical Assistant Certification/Degree or Associate Degree with knowledge of health services or An Associate Degree in Food Service/Nutrition related field plus equivalent experience, course work, and certifications in nutrition
Two or more years of experience as a nurse assistant or medical assistant or experience with CACFP Program
Upon hire, must obtain Texas Food Manager Certification
Competency in using computer hardware and software to effectively maintain health services records and social services records.
Communication and demonstrated experience in delivering presentations on health topics.
Must have Valid Driver’s License, Personal Vehicle and Liability Insurance required.

All EHS employees must pass a mandatory criminal background check upon hire and every five years thereafter.
Initial health exam and state required communicable disease screening and testing.
Employment is conditional pending satisfactory results of all required tests and background
checks mentioned above. Periodic physical examinations and TB clearances will be required if hired.
