This position may be filled remotely, or in any of our locations.

The Senior IP Docket Manager is responsible for the operations of the Intellectual Property Business Docketing Group in supporting and improving the Firm's overall IP docketing services. This position reports to the Director of Docketing Services and works closely with the Director, the IP Docket Manager(s), IP docketing staff, IP attorneys, and other professionals. Essential job functions include:

  • Develop, streamline, and implement centralized IP docketing process improvements and workflow strategies.
  • Develop clear performance expectations and benchmarks for the docketing staff.
  • Provide guidance, training, and expertise to the IP Docket Manager and IP Docket Specialists on best practices in docketing and workflow.
  • Work with the Director and IP Docket Manager(s) to continually improve central docketing procedures and services for the Intellectual Property group.
  • Analyze training needs and develop training protocols for docketing staff.
  • Routinely audit the data in the docketing database for accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to docketing procedures.
  • Maintain knowledge of available patent and trademark docketing software and tools and provide recommendations to the Director on updating the firm’s software.
  • Work with the Director to develop and maintain best practices manuals, checklists, and other materials.
  • Maintains a knowledge of trends, developments, and legislative rulings impacting intellectual property law, including revisions to international country law, USPTO procedural changes and provide research to clarify rules and changes to current regulations.
  • Work closely with the IP Docket Manager(s) and docketing staff to ensure the accuracy of data imports and exports for all new and transferred patent and trademark portfolios.
  • Participate in recruiting docketing staff and evaluating the performance of IP Docket Specialists.
  • Other duties as required.

Position Requirements

  • A minimum of 10 years of IP docketing experience and 5 years of IP management experience required, preferably in a professional services environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in related field required.
  • US and foreign patent and trademark prosecution experience required.
  • Knowledge of litigation process required.
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with IP docketing software applications required.
  • Ability to adapt to change, and balance competing demands in a fast-paced environment.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Employees are entitled to compensation commensurate with skill and experience. The full time base annual salary for this position in the Denver, CO market is expected to range between $105,000- $155,000, in Los Angeles, CA the market is expected to range between $121,000 - $177,000, and in Oakland, CA the market is expected to range between $122,000 - $180,000. Salaries in other markets will vary depending on market data. Bonus opportunities are non-guaranteed, and are dependent upon individual and firm performance.
