As a Senior Data Scientist- Insights, Data Engineering, and Analytics (IDEAs) on the Compete and Market Data Science team, you will focus on reporting and analyzing Microsoft share vs. key competitors for the Microsoft 365 Productivity and Collaboration apps and services along with Windows device business. Our team supplies important competitive data and analysis that is utilized broadly and by the most senior leaders in the company.
Deep data and business analyses to deliver insights and learning on Microsoft success against competitors.
- Define, develop, and monitor key performance metrics and analytic data for Microsoft 365 Productivity and Collaboration products/services and key competitor solutions. Ensure metrics are both simple to understand and easy to use in driving the business
- Define, automate, and deliver core reporting as a tool for presenting results and aid in storytelling
- Data exploration to determine the best 1st and 3rd party data solutions for use in total market share measurement and analysis
- Partner with Business, Marketing, Product & Finance stakeholders to build actionable plans & analysis that address key business questions and inform business strategy
- Collaborate closely with Data Engineering and Machine Learning Sciences teams to incorporate their expertise into projects that address prioritized business needs
- Present insights and learnings to key stakeholders and executives in standard business forums
- Strategic thinking on the overall competitive landscape for the Microsoft 365 and Windows devices businesses.
Required/Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 5+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
- OR Master's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 3+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
- OR Doctorate in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 1+ year(s) data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
- OR equivalent experience.
4+ years of experience and proficiency in analyzing large volumes of data, extracting insights processing large data sets using SQL or SQL-like scripting language and Excel.
4+ years of experience and proficiency in automating reporting and building visualizations using tools such as Power BI and Excel
Preferred/Additional Qualifications:
- Experience with COSMOS, C++, C#, Hadoop, Spark, Python are a plus
- Deep data/business analysis capabilities and creative thinking with demonstrated ability to work in ambiguous situations
- Experience and understanding of statistics and machine learning.
- Demonstrated written and oral communication skills, particularly the ability to synthesize complex issues/scenarios into easy-to-understand concepts. Storytelling and presentation capabilities are critical.
- Demonstrated cross-group collaboration and business partnering skills to use across diverse stakeholder organizations
Data Science IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year.
