Job Description

Remote Opportunity within the U.S. Hybrid Remote in Lansing, MI also available, if preferred.

This position is directly responsible for supporting the Company’s Claim Analytics department. It provides an opportunity to work directly with Claims leadership and other data and analytics partners (e.g., Data Science, Actuarial) across the organization to deliver insights and change the way we do business. Responsibilities include data gathering, trend analysis, forecasting, performance monitoring, benefit calculations, interactive dashboard development, industry comparisons, management presentations, assistance with predictive model deployment, and many other ad hoc Claims projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES/TASKS:

Specific Responsibilities by Focus Area:

  • Work with stakeholders to identify, create, and monitor various reports and key business metrics.
  • Analyze data for stakeholders and present analysis in a format appropriate for strategic discussion. Make recommendations and present data to appropriate personnel.
  • Understand and effectively utilize both internal and external data to address business concerns.
  • Review predictive and analytical models for accuracy and reasonableness and leverage output to bring strategic value to the organization.
  • Integrate with Predictive Modeling, Actuarial, and Data teams to develop creative solutions to stakeholder issues.
  • Assists in providing training, strategic guidance and recommendations to various stakeholders.
  • Develop proficiency with required software, data, and analytical tools.
  • Report, and provide guidance to end-users regarding use and interpretation of results.
  • Assist stakeholders in deploying strategies.
  • Performs ad-hoc projects, research, and analysis in support of key stakeholders.
  • Ensures efficient and effective use of company resources, evaluate processes and procedures, and develop new procedures.
  • Exercise discretion when communicating outside of department.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information processed as appropriate.

EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, finance, economics, or related field required. Continuous learning required, as defined by the Company’s learning philosophy.

EXPERIENCE:

With proper education, a minimum of two years analytics experience required. Progress toward continuing insurance education (AIDA, ARM, CPCU, CAS, etc.) is preferred.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES (SKA) REQUIRED:

  • Ability to perform statistical analysis.
  • Introductory knowledge of predictive modeling, insurance, and claims analysis reports.
  • Knowledge of mathematics and statistics with the ability to perform necessary mathematical computations.
  • Knowledge of database applications.
  • Ability to apply the principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions.
  • Ability to effectively exchange information clearly and concisely, present ideas, report facts and other information, and respond to questions as appropriate.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment.
  • Ability to effectively present strategic information, and respond to questions as appropriate.
  • Ability and proficiency in the use of computers and company standard software specific to position.
  • Ability to meet necessary deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality as appropriate.

Additional Skills/Knowledge/Abilities for Statistical Analyst II

  • Knowledge of insurance principles and practices including reinsurance and rate-making, underwriting and marketing guidelines, and claims practices.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, establish work flows and meet necessary deadlines.
  • Ability to comprehend the consequences of various problem situations and address them.
  • Ability to make competent, independent decisions.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed in an office/remote setting with no unusual hazards. Minimal travel is required.
