Meat & Seafood Clerk - FT 40 hrs. per wk.
Department: Meat & Seafood
Reports To: Meat and Seafood Manager
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Salary Level: $15.50 to $24.00 / hr.
Summary: Responsible for the daily production of displayed items, identifying cuts and organizing and maintaining cases. Responsible for delivering superior customer service through taking orders, providing suggestions and education on products. Responsible for cleaning and providing a sanitary work environment.

Customer Service –
- Take and fill orders as requested by customers
- Knowledge of all meat department products and ability to recommend preparation techniques to customers
- Utilize knowledge of natural foods and customer service skills to respond to customer’s inquiries and needs.
Meat Handling –
- Understanding or organic and non-organic meat handling
- Ability to operate all necessary machinery in a safe and controlled manner
- Knowledge of different cuts of meat
- Knowledge of how natural and organic animals are raised
- Knowledge of how to clean all equipment
- Input in department process changes and marketing.
Department Maintenance –
- Attend department meetings, storewide meetings and training as scheduled
- Perform other tasks assigned by the Meat and Seafood Manager or designee
- Participate in regular inventory counts
- Actively search out areas in need of cleaning
- Locate and inform the Meat and Seafood Manager of any equipment needing servicing.
Responsibilities to Safety:
- Protect the safety of self, co-worker's, and BriarPatch Co-op patrons at all times.
- Report any potentially harmful equipment or situations to the immediate supervisor without delay.
- Report safety-related accidents and incidents at once to supervisor.
- Follow all company and safety policies and procedures.
- Operate equipment in a safe manner that will not lead to injury of self or others.

Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or GED certificate preferred. Prior experience in meat/seafood highly preferred. In addition, must have:

- Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
- Willingness to work under stressful and pressured conditions.
Language Skills:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively with customers or employees.
Mathematical Skills:
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.
Reasoning Ability:
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or electronic form.
- Computer Skills:
- An individual should have knowledge of:
- Internet software
- Inventory software
- Order processing systems
- Spreadsheet software and
- Word Processing software.
