ADM has an opening for a Membrane Separations Scientist at our Corporate Research Center located in Decatur, IL!
Job Responsibilities
The Research Process Development Group within ADM S&T (Science and Technology) is seeking a motivated scientist to advance the capabilities of ADM’s membrane separations processes and provide innovative solutions. This individual provides support to all ADM Business Units (Carbohydrate Solutions, Ag Services & Oilseeds, and Nutrition) with goals to support existing process improvement, new product/process development, and sustainability initiatives. The Membrane Separations Scientist is responsible for fostering an inclusive corporate culture to leverage the diversity and different experiences of our talented team.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Serve as subject matter expert for membrane separations for both new and existing ADM processes while partner with Separations Manager, Group Director, and/or Project Managers
- Align individual and group efforts with core technical capabilities of ADM’s current and future business needs
- Understand S&T priorities and ensure that prioritized projects have the appropriate involvement and level of technology
- Support technology development projects by holding others accountable to using S&T’s phase-gated project management structure
- Partner with ADM Spiral facility manufacturing membranes
- Be a leader and role model in project execution, project management, and development of RPDG’s core capabilities
- Active participation in continuous improvement efforts of standard workflows

Experience & Requirements
- An advanced degree (Entry-level PhD, or MS with 5+ years of industry experience) or equivalent experience (BS with 8+ years of industry experience) in Chemical Engineering/Chemistry or related fields
- Working knowledge of commercial-scale separation processes, multiple unit operations, and fundamental concepts of separation mechanisms
- Strong interpersonal skills to keep work on track and remove barriers, promote constructive feedback, and motivate diverse group of team members
- Effective communication skills to engage colleagues in research, operations, and business groups as well as external organizations
- Enables an inclusive work culture that inspires ideation, collaboration, and an overall sense of belonging
- Ability to function within a matrix project management environment, often functioning as a matrix project leader guiding the technical direction of project and driving scientific excellence
- Experience with project management tools

Requirements
- Travel up to 10%
- Comfortable managing/participating in various projects concurrently
- Candidate will further ADM’s capabilities utilizing membrane separations
- Candidate will be responsible for experimental design in labs, pilot locations, and production plants
- Candidates with additional experience in the area of separations including simulated moving bed chromatography, crystallization, ion exchange, and/or centrifugation would be preferred.
- Candidate will need to work within established company and laboratory safety guidelines
- Willingness to spend time in plant production areas, tolerate extreme temperatures and weather conditions, walk long distances, stand, climb stairs and ladders and move through close spaces
