The School of Environmental and Forest Sciences is looking for a full-time Research Scientist/Engineer 3 to work in the field of wildlife ecology.

The research scientist will join the Prugh lab (http://www.prughlab.com/). to investigate how changing snow conditions in northwestern North America are affecting the movements, demography, and predation risk of Dall sheep, moose, elk, white-tailed deer, and mule deer. The Prugh lab in part of the interdisciplinary School of Environmental and Forest Sciences at the University of Washington, Seattle (http://www.cfr.washington.edu/). Dr. Prugh has expertise in wildlife population and community ecology.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage large spatial datasets of GPS collar locations, snow properties, and other remotely-sensed environmental layers (25%)
  • Conduct advanced statistical analyses such as movement models and population models (30%)
  • Prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication (30%)
  • Coordinate with other members of the research team (5%)
  • Mentor graduate students working on snow-wildlife projects (5%)
  • Disseminate findings at scientific conferences (5%)

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • A MSc degree in wildlife biology or a related field.
  • 3 years of experience analyzing data using program R and producing scientific manuscripts.

    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Prior experience conducting movement models, population models, and working with large spatial datasets in program R.
  • Familiarity with large mammal ecology, ungulate-carnivore interactions, and snow-wildlife interactions in northwestern North America.
