The Social Development Research Group (SDRG) at UW is looking for four temporary part-time staff to facilitate web- based interviews with research study participants in the 4th R Study based at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB). The position will be approximately 3 months in duration beginning in late May and will continue through late July/early August 2023. Pay Rate: starting at $19.73/hour. The purpose of the 4th R study is to measure the impact of the 4th R Intervention on healthy relationships and the prevention of dating violence. The students in the study are currently in 12th grade at schools in the Houston, TX area. This is their 5th year of participation, and they will be prompted to complete the survey on the web or via phone interview.

Essential Function:

Research Study Assistants (RSA) will contact the parents/guardians of the participants and the study participants themselves in order to facilitate the students’ participation in the 12th grade web survey. RSA’s will use various modes of contact (calling, texting, emailing), resources, and strategies to coordinate survey completion with participants, and they are responsible for updating a database with the most current respondent information. RSA’s may perform additional miscellaneous tasks as needed. Training will be provided and RSAs will be expected to demonstrate mastery of basic interviewing techniques and an understanding of the 4th R study before beginning work on the project.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Successful completion of all required training (approximately 25-30 hours).
  • Demonstrating an understanding of interviewing techniques and study protocols.
  • Contacting participant families/participants to explain the study and giving the students the information needed to complete their web survey.
  • Motivating respondents to take the survey, finding ways to help respondents finish the survey as soon as possible; assisting the project in meeting completion goals.
  • Contacting respondents at their last known location and implementing locating strategies as needed to uncover new contact information.
  • Conducting phone interviews by using CATI software, as needed.
  • Adhering to project protocol, assuring confidentiality of subject information, using project tools properly, keeping detailed and accurate records.
  • Implementing refusal prevention techniques for hesitant participants, maintaining high response rates.
  • Serving as a member of the team, participating in weekly staff meetings, providing on-going feedback on survey administration and procedures, assisting in problem-solving solutions.
  • Assisting with other data collection and clerical tasks as needed.


    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS


  • Two years of college-level course work in a relevant academic area OR equivalent education/experience.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Comfortable learning new technology; able to handle working with multiple software applications (specifically MS Office Suite and SPSS survey software, Access Database).

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Flexible schedule (evenings and weekends)


    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bilingual: Able to speak, read, and write English and Spanish, preferred.
  • Previous customer service experience; ability to build rapport easily with a diverse population, preferred.
  • Experience working on research project or understanding of social science/data collection process, preferred.
