Position is within the Adversity BioCore Bank that was created to examine the biological consequences of social and environmental adversity. This is a growing lab with great potential for personal and career developments – team science at its core. The incumbent will be responsible for building and managing a repository of plasma, DNA, RNA extracted from blood, nasal, oral, and stool samples. The incumbent must be able to perform plasma, serum, and DNA extraction and optimizing protocols for new experiments in the laboratory. In addition, the incumbent will be responsible for running immunoassays, performing quantitative polymerase chain reactions (qPCR), and assisting staff with basic molecular biology related experiments and other miscellaneous everyday lab functions. This includes, but is not limited to, updating and maintaining database of biological results, keeping stock and ordering of new materials, and, on occasion, interacting with collaborators regarding biospecimen-related matters.
In addition to the above, the incumbent must be able to design and execute experiments independently and the ability to identity and troubleshoot problematic assays. The incumbent should feel comfortable working independently being able to prioritize their own time dependent on the necessary tasks at hand and the incoming samples of the day. The incumbent will meet weekly with the supervisor to review results and updates on the on-goings of the laboratory.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.
For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.
