Title: Pre-K Relief/Cub Club Staff

Qualifications: 18 years or older with a high school diploma, and experience working with children

Reports To: Lead Teacher, Cub Club Supervisor, and Site Supervisor

Location: Building Bridges Pre-K

Date Reviewed: 2010, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019

Job Goals: Provide staff breaks, instructional assistance for the teacher(s) and work directly with children in the classroom in addition to working directly with children in the afterschool program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Performance Value:

Interactions with Children

1. Plans for and implements pleasant arrivals and departures to/from the afterschool program.

2. Uses routines to build relationships and learning opportunities.

3. Shows respect for children and encourages respectful interactions.

4. Uses language to build relationships and strengthen the child’s social and emotional competencies.

5. Uses indirect and direct behavior guidance techniques.

6. Supports children as they learn to resolve their own conflicts.

7. Strives to meet each child’s individual needs.

8. Accompanies assigned children and knows counts at all times.

Activities and Environment

9. Maintains a clean, organized, and inviting after school environment that is safe and developmentally appropriate.

10. Assists with planning and implementing a variety of engaging learning experiences for children attending Cub Club.

11. Uses the outdoors as part of the learning environment.

12. Teaches and provides guidance for the development of good eating and health habits.

13. Follows the break and daily schedule to meet the needs of the children.

14. Accepts responsibility for shared space.

15. Continually rotates and sanitizes materials and disposes of broken or recalled items.

16. Follows instructions given by classroom teachers when providing a break.

17. Maintains close supervision of children at all times.

18. Assists classroom teachers in the implementation of developmentally appropriate activities.

Professional Responsibilities

19. Meets program attendance requirements as outlined in the personnel handbook.

20. Maintains a professional appearance and follows the program dress code.

21. Open to new ideas and suggestions for working with children and takes initiative.

22. Accepts responsibility for job-related tasks, to include any documentation and/or record keeping.

23. Attends all staff meetings and meets program expectations for professional development (30 hrs annually).

24. Knows and is able to follow emergency procedures and risk management protocol.

25. Keeps classroom teachers/supervisors apprised of Cub Club’s and individual children’s status.

26. Completes all Better Beginnings requirements to ensure the program remains state quality approved.

27. Accepts all assignments given by supervisors.

28. Maintains all program requirements: minimum licensing, program policies, and quality expectations.

29. Completes yearly self-evaluation.

30. Uses good judgment and keeps information confidential.

31. Assists parents with questions and/or refers to the Lead Teacher/Cub Club Supervisor.

32. Assists with discipline issues and/or refers Lead Teacher and/or Cub Club Supervisor.

Interactions with Parents and Staff

33. Works to build positive relationships with parents, co-workers, and others.

34. Communicates effectively with parents, co-workers, and others daily; avoids gossip.

35. Works as a part of a team with concern for the entire program and is flexible.

36. Assists in planning family involvement activities to strengthen families.

Additional qualifications include enjoyment of young children, good mental and physical health, and respect for diverse cultural backgrounds, willingness to complete training requirements, and willingness to undergo background checks required by law.'
