Job Title: Phlebotomist

Job Summary:

The Laboratory/Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting and processing patient specimens and performing laboratory tests. The Laboratory/Phlebotomist will also maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with laboratory safety protocols and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collect and process patient specimens, including blood, urine, and tissue samples
• Perform laboratory tests, including chemistry, haematology, and microbiology tests
• Ensure that all specimens are properly labelled and stored
• Maintain accurate records of patient information and test results
• Follow laboratory safety protocols and regulatory requirements
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments
• Prepare and analyse specimens for laboratory testing
• Communicate with healthcare providers and patients regarding laboratory test results
• Assist with quality control and quality assurance activities

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Completion of a phlebotomy training program or certification as a phlebotomist
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in a laboratory or healthcare setting
• Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols and regulatory requirements
• Familiarity with laboratory equipment and instruments
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to stand for extended periods of time
• Must be able to lift and move equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds
• Must be able to bend, stoop, and reach to perform laboratory tasks
