Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) supports Johns Hopkins' focus on research, teaching and patient care, and its role as a national and global leader in higher education. We create and foster enduring relationships that result in advocacy and philanthropic support for Johns Hopkins University & Medicine; strengthening the institution through partnerships with donors, alumni, volunteer leaders, faculty, students, staff, and patients.
Johns Hopkins University supports a flexible work model which includes four different work modalities. This role has a hybrid work arrangement with an onsite presence 3 days per week. The manager will confirm the team's core onsite days where the majority/all team members will work in the office. Employees who travel on university business can count those days towards their onsite days.
Reporting to the Senior Associate Director of Donor Relations, the Assistant Director plays an integral role in the writing and design of personalized donor impact reports as well as the creation of other special stewardship pieces for Johns Hopkins Medicine donors. They will support the Senior Associate Director in providing strategic and tactical stewardship guidance to 16 Baltimore-based development offices and all four partner hospitals who manage the greater Johns Hopkins Medicine donor base (46,000 strong) and assist with the implementation of a donor recognition program for the Fund for Johns Hopkins Medicine (FJHM). The Assistant Director will be charged with copy content creation for solicitation appeals for the Office of Medical Annual Giving and will be the lead copy editor for the Central Development and Donor Relations team.
1. Collaborates with the Senior Associate Director to execute the vision and strategy for FJHM's comprehensive stewardship and donor relations efforts to attract and retain donors, strengthen relationships with grateful patients and alumni, express gratitude, show the impact of gifts, and increase giving.
2. Assists in the design and production of high-quality stewardship deliverables for FJHM donors of $1 million +, including creative, personalized projects like impact reports, videos, gifts, and written or online pieces.
3. Partners with the Senior Associate Director to manage the donor recognition program on East Baltimore and Bayview campuses; creates and maintains tracking mechanisms to promote consistency across the institution and demonstrate impact.
4. Partners with the OMAG team to create compelling and effective annual fund appeal letters for the Office of Medical Annual Giving to utilize in their partnerships with the East Baltimore and Partner hospital-based development offices.
5. Team leader for copy editing and proofreading all content created by FJHM Central Development and Donor Relations.
6. Participates in the planning and execution of stewardship events such as Live the Mission and 'Precision Experiences."
7. Develops knowledge of overall FJHM donor and alumni bases, JHM campaign and leadership fundraising priorities, the institution's body of work, and Johns Hopkins Medicine milestones/events.
8. Remains updated about donor relations and annual giving industry best practices and routinely suggests new, fresh, creative ways to push the field forward on behalf of Johns Hopkins Medicine.
9. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree.
Two years related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in donor relations and/or annual fundraising in a complex institutional advancement environment preferred. The ideal candidate will be willing to travel and work evening events on occasion. They will possess a strong desire to associate with Johns Hopkins Medicine and to champion the institutional mission.
Exceptional writing and editing skills
Design experience, including the use of platforms like Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, ThankView, and Animoto
Strong verbal communication skills
Ability to articulate the institutional mission and scientific information for all audiences
High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
Collaborative, creative, collegial
A writing and editing skills test may be administered for finalist candidates.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.
