Job Description
This is responsible work transporting time-sensitive deliveries, by motor vehicle, to various buildings throughout Washington, DC; delivering and picking up official business mail, documents, equipment, supplies and related items. This work includes providing assistance to Senate offices while on deliveries as needed. Work is performed under the general supervision of an immediate supervisor and is reviewed for accuracy, timeliness, and safe work practices.
Examples of Work
Sorts incoming mail by Senate support organization. Picks up and delivers official Senate documents, materials, equipment and supplies mailed to/from various offices in the Senate and other government buildings; collects outgoing mail. Maintains records for accountable deliveries. Collects deposits from P.O Boxes within the National Capitol Station daily and transports contents for additional screening by Senate Post Office staff.
Minimum Qualifications
Work requires a high school diploma (or GED), and two years related experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the following knowledge, abilities and skills:
Physical Demands and Working Environment
Work is often performed driving on city streets and delivering mail and/or packages; requires physical strength and agility to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds; sitting for extended periods, standing and walking.
Licenses, Certification and Other Requirements

Conditions of Employment
To be employed by a Senate employing office in a paid position in the continental United States an individual must:
1. Be a U.S. citizen;
2. Be lawfully admitted for permanent residence and seeking citizenship as outlined in 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3)(B);
3. Be (i) admitted as a refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157 or granted asylum under 8 U.S.C. § 1158 and (ii) have filed a declaration of intention to become a lawful permanent resident and then a citizen when eligible; or
4. Owe allegiance to the U.S. (i.e., qualify as a non-citizen U.S. national under federal law).
Employment is contingent on background / security investigation results.
