Part-Time Librarian

We are seeking a friendly, innovative, and flexible person with a strong commitment to public service to work in the Adult Services Reference Department. Cook Memorial Public Library District serves 61,000 residents from two full-service locations: Cook Park Library in Libertyville and Aspen Drive Library in Vernon Hills. Hours:

Averaging 25.5 hours a week. Includes one full weekend per month, one evening per week, and daytime hours. Opportunities for shift substitution hours.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Answers reference questions utilizing online catalog, print resources, Internet, and subscription databases
• Plans and leads the English Conversation Café and English Language Learners’ Book Club
• Selects and maintains the Adult World Languages Collections at both Library locations
• Reviews and evaluates publications and Internet resources in order to select materials in assigned subject areas; withdraws titles from
• collection based on accepted weeding principles
• Assists patrons with library digital collections
• Operates and performs basic troubleshooting of library computers and equipment

Requirements:

• MLS/MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited library school.
• Knowledge of and commitment to high-quality reference practices, and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in customer services.
• Strong technology aptitude, an interest in emerging technology, and the ability to effectively instruct patrons and staff on their use.
• Knowledge of and experience with general print reference materials, databases, and Internet resources.
• Knowledge and experience with digital formats and devices.
• Ability to work scheduled shifts at Cook Park Library in Libertyville and Aspen Drive Library in Vernon Hills.

Salary and Benefits:

$24.11 per hour, Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund, 457 savings plan, paid vacation and sick leave, scheduled holiday pay, paid parental leave, premium pay on Sundays, cost of living and merit increases.
