Location/Division Specific Information

This position is focused on service delivery excellence for Unity Lab Services. A division of Thermo Fisher responsible for providing onsite services at customers locations. We provide services at over 400 customer sites globally.

This position is located in San Diego, CA .

How will you make an impact?

Provides work direction to and performs all duties of a Sr. Site Specialist, Site Specialist or Site Service Technician to assure customer satisfaction. Monitors work flow to optimize staffing and services for customer. Acts as a liaison between customer, sales, suppliers, logistics and management using special system knowledge to ensure success of customer relationships.

What will you do?

Assists in coordinating the staff and workload to meet or exceed productivity performance standards for Managed Services. Provides functional supervision to team members by performing site coverage as needed. May assist in the cross training of associates and the training of new hires.

Coordinate equipment and instrument repair and maintenance to include: Database management. Interaction with Lab Champions and vendors for coordination with repair and calibration of laboratory equipment.

Proactively responds to potential equipment issues to prevent unplanned interruption and customers’ business.

Perform asset tagging and tracking of instruments leveraging client procedures

Closely communicate and collaborate with onsite team to prioritize and resolve open corrective and preventative work orders.

Maintains company assets (tools, inventory, laptop computer, etc.) in good and working condition.

Escort lab instrument service vendors to work sites and provide locally required trainings to such service vendors.

Provide oversight and support of Lab Services operations including inventory management, material handling, dock management, receiving, shipping, and glassware washing.

Communicate clearly, understand and acknowledge verbal instructions, read and interpret work from drawings, written work orders, sketches, blueprints, and technical manuals.

Understand customer requirements and coordinate interface with other teams for various support requirements.

Maintain professional and customer-oriented relationships with team members, internal and external customers and service providers, and building occupants

Facilitates and directs team meetings.

Identifies training and site service personnel skills enhancement opportunities and reports these to the supervisor.

Reviews site employee errors and trains/coaches so potential errors are eliminated.

How will you get here?

Education:

  • High School Diploma Required
  • Associates Degree, Biotechnology Course Certificate or 3-5 years of equivalent experience, preferred

Experience:

  • Three to five years of progressive proven experience, preferred
  • Experience in laboratory setting providing laboratory operations support, preferred
  • Direct knowledge of laboratory equipment, services and supplies, preferred
  • Basic computer skills (word processing, spreadsheet and internet)

  • Must possess the operating skills to use hand held scanners and learn to enter data in various systems as necessary.
  • Must be proficient with a computer and the Microsoft Office suite of software.
  • Must possess a high level of communication skills to provide guidance to others in performing the work, to effectively present information and respond to questions or customer service requests and interact with various levels of the customer’s organization.
  • Must be able to lift, push and pull 30-40 pounds consistently; may be required to lift 50 lbs.
  • May pass through areas where chemical based allergens may be in use (such as penicillin, tetracycline, etc).
  • Depending on area of building, personal protective equipment may be worn to include lab coats, coveralls, hood, facemask, hairnets and/or safety gloves
  • Some areas require steel toe shoes, bump hats and/or safety glasses
  • Must be able to work overtime as required

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly pay range estimated for this position based in California is $23.00–$33.00.

This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package that our U.S. colleagues and their families can count on, which includes:
