CSU CLASSIFICATION SALARY RANGE: $4,610 - $6,556

POSITION PURPOSE:

Under the general supervision of the Dean of Social Sciences and Education, the Credential Programs Advisor provides moderately complex professional counseling and academic advising services to current and prospective credential students for entry and transition into, and timely completion of, the preliminary credential. The Credential Programs Advisor will provide information, procedures, and academic requirements of specific credential programs, and guide students in exploring education careers, evaluating academic abilities, and setting goals to facilitate student success, retention, and persistence. In addition, this position will engage in credential program recruitment and outreach with local undergraduate programs, school districts, and relevant community organizations.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Credential Program Completion Support
    • Develop individualized program completion plan for each student based on the unique student needs; track student progress and adjust the plan based on the progress and changing needs of the student.
    • Independently provide academic support through one-on-one appointments, daily electronic communications, phone calls, and group workshops; work with students to evaluate and understand their academic records; set goals for academic progress to ensure completion of their academic programs; inform and interpret university, college, and program level academic policies and procedures.
    • Support candidate adherence to program policies and procedures.
    • Track and support candidate progress for successful completion of preliminary credential program; identify options for students to satisfy degree requirements; using appropriate judgement and interpretation of guidelines and policies, evaluate and make recommendations on petitions and amendments to students’ program of study towards their completion.
    • Work with credential candidates to complete appropriate, accurate, and regularly updated program plan.
  • Credential Admissions Applicant Support
    • Using initiative and creativity, collaborate with program directors and other credential admissions advisors to plan, schedule, and implement group admissions workshops/informational sessions.
    • Serve as the first point of contact for credential admissions and respond to credential applicant inquires and needs via email, zoom meetings, phone, and/or walk-ins. Provide information about program policies & procedures.
    • Collaborate with credential admissions advisors to maintain organized data about applicants and admitted students.
    • Support students’ successful completion of credential admissions requirements.
  • Credential Program Transition Support
    • Support transition of traditional pathway applicants and Integrated Teacher Education Program pathway students into credential program.
    • Provide credential transition information and orientation activities with applicants and ITEP students.
    • Coordinate with undergraduate advisors/faculty to structure and implement transitional activities such as Program Interviews and Orientation sessions.
  • Recruitment & Outreach
    • Provide prospective students with information about program admissions policies and procedures.
    • Participate in local teacher recruitment fairs and informational events to promote CSUB credential program pathways.
    • Provide credential program presentations to prospective students in local undergraduate programs, schools districts, and community organizations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE – Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or job-related field and two (2) years of recent related experience. A master’s degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience. Specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the appropriate knowledge and abilities may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

LICENSES – Possession of a valid CA driver's license or the ability to obtain by date of hire to attend off campus meetings and conferences.

  • Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development.
  • Must be able to work occasional holidays weekends and adjust working hours to meet special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in student affairs or other related area.
  • Working knowledge of the basic principles of the California credentialing process for teaching credentials; knowledge of educational practice related to employment of teachers with credentials, certificates, or permits in California school systems; general knowledge of teacher preparation programs and university internship programs.
