Job Description

Overview:
  • The purpose of a Lead Histotechnician is to assist and have oversight of properly process surgical specimens to preserve the tissue morphology and cell structure. Prepares and oversees that quality tissue section on a glass slide for microscopical evaluation to meet the expected timeframe. Performs routine, special stains, and any special immunohistochemical or high complexity procedures needed for diagnostic purpose. This person aids the manager in assuring that regulatory standards and hospital standards are implemented fairly, promptly and appropriately documentation is maintained. The Lead may act as designee in the absence of the manager.
Qualifications:
Education and Work Experience:
    • Must possess a high school diploma or GED
    • Associate Degree in Laboratory Science and successful completion of a NAACLS approved Histotechnician Program or Histology Laboratory training that meets ASCP eligibility requirements for certification
    • Must meet CLIA requirements for high complexity testing
    • 5 years experience in Histology preferred.

    • Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to utilize one or more of the following:

      • Microsoft Outlook
      • Meditech (if applicable to position)
      • Epic (if applicable to position)
      • Performance Manager/NetLearning
    • Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language in an understandable manner.
    • Must be able to work independently and possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
    • Must possess the ability to effectively communicate and deal tactfully with other personnel, visitors, patients, physicians, customers, and the general public.
    • Must be flexible, have personal integrity, and the ability to function effectively as a team with other employees.
    • Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
