Job Description

The Faculty Assistant will support multiple faculty in the Department of Biochemistry & Biophysics with general administrative tasks. The role also supports the central administrative office of the department with special projects and event planning activities.

Typical tasks will include coordination of and assistance with reimbursement processing, procurement activities in BearBuy, pre-award documents, communications to lab personnel, management of calendar and scheduling functions, and facilities requests.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Department Description

The Department of Biochemistry & Biophysics is a large teaching and research department within the School of Medicine. The department offers graduate studies in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Developmental Biology, Systems Biology, and Genetics degree programs, in addition to providing courses for medical, dental, and pharmacy students. Each program includes interdepartmental faculty representing: the Cancer Center, Medicine, Pharmacy, Physiology, Pediatrics, Microbiology, Pathology, Anatomy, Psychiatry and Neurology departments, as well as our own. In addition to offering course work, the department’s other main goal is to provide an environment where outstanding research in diverse areas of interest is conducted. A close, collaborative spirit among faculty facilitates a research atmosphere that is both productive and exciting. Moreover, many colleagues from other departments have joint appointments with Biochemistry, which forms an added active pool of investigators with whom we closely collaborate.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related area
  • Solid organizational skills and ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes
  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to use sound judgement in responding to issues and concerns

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with MyReports, BearBuy, MyExpense, PeopleSoft
  • Experience in preparing and monitoring budgets for programs or events
  • Experience with drupal and adobe creative suite
