Job Summary

The Director for Education Certification and Program Accountability position will oversee the certification process from start to completion including maintaining enrollment status for students during this process. This position will act as a liaison with the other departments across The University of Texas Tyler as well as other districts across our region.


Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks

  • Submit data into Texas Education Agency system on a regular basis, while following State timelines.
  • Keep a record of who has applied, who has completed, who has been recommended, and any follow-up that is required.
  • Maintain candidates’ enrollment status.
  • Admit candidates to the certification programs.
  • Approve students to take the state certification exams.
  • File probationary certificates.
  • Deactivate/reactivate certificates.
  • Enter clinical experience records and observations.
  • Standard certify candidates.
  • Complete ASEP Reporting.
  • Title II Manager responsible for Title II reports.
  • Serve as the point person for all programs within the Educator Preparation program.
  • Meet with student teachers at the end of the semester.
  • Liaison with other departments who house certification specializations.
  • Liaison with TEA/SBEC.
  • Work with school districts as their needs arise.
  • Stay inform on the faculty of rule/certification changes.
  • Submit information to SBEC/TEA as required by the agency.
  • Complete State referrals for students moving out of state.
  • Keep accurate records of student test eligibility, test taken, and tests completed.
  • Represent UTT at state organizations such as TACO & TCTCT.
  • Provide data for LBB reports.
  • Assign responsibilities to the certification office administrative assistant.
  • Supervise record-keeping—both files and databases.
  • Provide the University with institutional feedback on certification exam performance.
  • Serve on TEA committees, as requested.
  • Serve on University / College / SOE committees.
  • Participate in service and scholarly activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Required Education/Experience

  • Master’s degree.
  • Doctorate degree preferred.
  • Three (3) years of teaching experience (PK-12).
  • One (1) year of managerial experience.
  • Experience with databases and Excel.
  • Higher education educator preparation experience.
  • Experience in an EPP certification office preferred.

  • Good communication skills.
  • Detail oriented to ensure accuracy of all data and reports.

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.

This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code Section 51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
