As new pharmacy clients are welcomed to OptumRx, the new client implementation team offers a best-in-class onboarding experience that is powered by solid governance and project management. Our Health Plan Implementation team is a separate and distinct division that handles our most sophisticated new Health Plan clients. The Director of Health Plan Implementations will report to the Vice President, Health Plan New Client Implementation and will be primarily responsible for implementation strategy, enterprise project initiatives, and implementation sales activities. As a key member of the health plan implementation leadership team, you will have key responsibilities to work closely with other Directors to drive new processes, create custom solutions to drive efficiency and serve as the lead in the new client sales process.
For the new Health Plan prospects or existing Health Plan renewal opportunities, you will own the overall strategy for establishing client expectations (in accordance with client contracts, agreed upon enhancements), and communicating these expectations with functional leaders and Health Plan implementation teams.
You will have significant responsibility and active engagement with all operations and account management leaders across the OptumRx organization to deliver on RFP and pre-sale activities. In this role, you will serve as the primary Health Plan Implementation lead, participating in the sales process for new or existing clients, including but not limited to RFP responses, finalist prep sessions, sales presentations, consultation relations, and capability demonstrations.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Serves as a key leader on the Health Plan Implementation team, supporting the sales and initial implementation processes
  • Partners with Client Executives and key business stakeholders throughout the RFP process to develop and execute strategic client plan that addresses client’s business needs (current and emerging), supports growth, provides value, and increases client engagement and loyalty
  • Supports client growth by participating in sales meetings and serving as a resource for Account Management for growth initiatives with existing clients
  • Establishes, cultivates and manages the customer relationship at multiple levels, (executive suite to solution owners) serving as a trusted business advisor / partner to the client and to key internal stakeholders within OptumRx
  • Partners with functional teams to deliver market competitive RFP responses and finalist presentations to meet client requirements and expectations
  • Ensures Client Satisfaction and client willingness to serve as a reference
  • Supports contract negotiations and performance guarantee negotiations

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent Pharmacy Benefit Management experience)
  • 3+ years of executive experience working with senior and C-Suite executives
  • 3+ years of implementation or large healthcare project management experience
  • 3+ years of experience working with health plans
  • 1+ years of staff management (indirectly or directly or as a mentor)
  • Experience working with complex health care solutions (e.g., outsourced health care solutions)
  • Solid experience in influencing internally and externally with soft power, driving cross - functional collaboration, and negotiating win - win solutions
  • Proven excellent presentation skill sets with executive level audiences
  • Demonstrates effective skills for navigating and driving results across operations, network, and clinical domains in a highly complex, matrix environment
  • Demonstrates excellent written, oral, and active listening communication skills. Demonstrated ability to message, position, and present information for maximum customer impact and influence
  • Proven ability to ascertain client needs through active listening skills, and consultatively work with clients to achieve business objectives
  • Ability to travel up to 50%

  • Project Management Professional Certification
  • 3+ years of plan management experience with Medicaid and Medicare and Health Care Exchange
  • Pharmacy Benefit Consulting experience in the Health Plan market segment

California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island, or Washington Residents Only: The salary range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island or Washington residents is $101,200 to $184,000. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
