Blue Sky Wellness Center at Kings View Behavioral Health was developed in 2007 with funding from Fresno County as a consumer centered and consumer driven wellness and recovery environment for individuals with mental illness. The primary focus is on key health principles: dispensing hope, having freedom of choice, modeling self-determination and personal responsibility. We believe and know that members (consumers) can and do recover and heal from past trauma and mental illness. Self-help and peer support are the foundation for Blue Sky’s peer community. Under minimal supervision will develop and oversee the day-to-day Volunteer Services for the Blue Sky Wellness Center including the training and supervision of volunteers, as well as providing direction, coordination and consultation for all volunteer activities. Delivers a comprehensive Volunteer Training Program curriculum for all new volunteers. Ensures that all volunteers have successfully completed the skill-based training program before volunteering.
How will I contribute
- Recruits and interviews all potential Blue Sky Wellness Center volunteer applicants. Uses creative and innovative ways to recruit volunteers.
- Delivers a comprehensive Volunteer Training Program curriculum for all new volunteers. Ensures that all volunteers have successfully completed the skill-based training program before volunteering.
- The Volunteer Training Program will be offered at least once per month, depending on the number of recruited potential volunteers.
- Schedules/assigns all volunteer activity, including front desk coverage at Blue Sky Wellness Center. Ensures that volunteer assignments and schedules are matched to the skill level and abilities to promote a feeling of self-confidence.
- Ongoing monitoring of volunteers regarding task assignments and offers support and guidance as needed. Formal individual and group coaching will occur twice per month.
- Conducts annual Goal Setting Meetings with all volunteers. Monitors volunteer goals on an ongoing basis and supports revising/enhancing volunteer goals throughout the year.
- Provides monthly ongoing, relevant training opportunities for volunteers.
- Acts as a single point of contact for all communications regarding volunteers.
- Conducts a monthly Volunteer Meeting, creating an open and friendly forum for volunteers to share their experiences, successes and challenges.
- Synchronizes with the Vocational Coordinator participation in the Monthly Community Volunteer Committee.
- Develops and maintains relationships with other volunteer organizations within the community.
- Maintains the Intern Program by interviewing college students that apply to intern at the Blue Sky Wellness Center. This also includes scheduling the intern hours, providing ongoing support/guidance and evaluation of each intern.
- Works closely with the Vocational Coordinator to help build and support the Vocational Program which includes volunteer participation.
- Maintains accurate records and provides timely statistical and activity reports on volunteer participation, including the tracking of volunteer hours and issuance of food vouchers for those volunteers that volunteer 40 hours per month.
- Supports potential new members through the Welcoming Process.
- Plays an active role and supports new program initiatives.
- Engage with members in a way that they feel heard and supported.
- Support members to take the lead in their own Recovery and Resilience Plan.
- Exercise good decision-making skills in small and group situations.
- Support members to diffuse conflict and promote learning self-regulation skills.
- Submit all complaints and/or incident reports directly to the Recovery Services Administrator daily or when they occur.
- Must have reliable transportation to work.
- Other duties as assigned by the Recovery Services Administrator.
What I bring
- Bachelors Degree
- 1 year experience working with clients in a mental health/behavioral health setting.
- Experience working in an environment with a focus on wellness and recovery.
- Must have lived experience as a person who has received/ or is receiving behavioral health services or a family member of person who has received/receiving behavioral health services.
- Class C Driving Requirements
- Must have the ability to develop and coordinate training of volunteers; cultivation of work habits and job skills essential for supported employment.
- Must have basic understanding and appreciation for recovery and resilience principles.
- Basic knowledge of mental health challenges most commonly experienced by members. Must have successfully completed the Volunteer Certification Training Program at Blue Sky.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to model patience, tolerance and kindness towards members and staff. Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate and have excellent verbal and written skills.
- Ability to work independently and can manage multiple interruptions throughout the day. Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
- Ability to work as part of a team and in tandem with the Blue Sky staff to provide a welcoming and safe environment where members can share and grow.
- Ability to work in harmony with the clients and public.
