Job Overview

Assist in the writing, editing and production activities of a publications department.


The Cincinnati Review seek a skilled social media and web writer with excellent organizational skills and mentorship experience. The selected candidate will create and maintain a coordinated social media presence for the magazine, as well as mentor graduate students in that practice, and oversee web writing and scheduling. The candidate will also assist the managing editor with a redesign of the magazine’s website, keeping accessibility issues in mind; local in-person and virtual events, making sure to coordinate with other department entities that host events; and paperwork related to the production of the magazine and the payment of contributors. When needed, the candidate will help with other editorial responsibilities, including identifying material worthy of publication. This part-time position (75% FTE, calendar year) includes benefits, and the selected candidate will become a vital part of a small but committed staff.


This position will offer flexibility for a hybrid remote work option for applicants with a residence within the Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana Tri-State Area. Hybrid/remote work arrangements are subject to change in accordance with university policies.

Essential Functions

  • Research and write feature articles, news articles, or copy for a variety of publications.
  • Edit, proofread, evaluate and recommend materials for various publications.
  • Serve as liaison between publications department and clients.
  • Respond to inquiries from faculty, students, public and outside media in a timely manner.
  • May serve in the Director’s absence.
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time.

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in English Composition, Professional Writing, Creative Writing, or related field.
  • Six (6) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.

Required Experience

Two (2) years of relevant experience reviewing and editing documents, articles, books, etc.

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • At least one year of experience with social media and web writing.
  • Knowledge of the field of literary-magazine or creative-writing publishing.
  • Masters or doctoral degree in creative writing.
  • Experience with event planning.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams; Adobe Illustrator and/or Canva; and Wordpress.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and driven to learn new things.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks at once and successfully prioritize responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to cultural diversity, equity, and inclusion.
