Job Summary

The Assistant Director & Student Success Specialist, under the general supervision of the Director of COB's Center for Student Success provides high level, complex, comprehensive undergraduate advising on university academic requirements, policies, and procedures. The position of Assistant Director & Student Success Specialist assists the Director and Associate Dean with coordination of critical support programs and initiatives for the college designed to strengthen the academic success and retention of all COB undergraduate students, such as graduation, early alert, academic probation, probation in the major, disqualification, etc.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinates critical support programs and initiatives for the college such as graduating senior programming, early alert, academic probation, probation in the major, reinstated and returning students, disqualified, disqualification appeals, major appeals, MSR and LD course tracking etc.
  • Independently advises undergraduate students about academic requirements.
  • Assists Director and Assistant Directors with COB's special advising programs and training of advisors on advising Early Alert populations.
  • Serves as a COB referral source for other college and student group advising units, the Learning Assistance Center, Counseling and Psychological Services, Career Development Center, and other academic and student service offices on campus.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Exhibits excellent organizational skills, prioritizes responsibilities, and meets project deadlines.
  • Exhibits strong critical and creative thinking skills, sound decision making and objectivity.
  • Able to work flexible hours, including evenings, is desired.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Education and Experience

  • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree with upper or graduate coursework in counseling and guidance, human relations, or related field and three years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas required.
  • Demonstrated academic advising experience in a college/vocational setting, preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and maintain advising programs, preferred.
  • Sedentary work - Involves mainly sitting. Walking and standing are minimal. Lifting is limited to lightweight objects. (10 pounds or less).

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,025 - $7,159 per month.

Time Base

1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.

Duration of Appointment
