Job Description

Provides responsible and complex secretarial and clerical skills in a charter school setting. Requires frequent use of word processing equipment as well as Student Information System databases (primarily Skyward). The incumbent will exercise appreciable independent judgment in coordinating the details of the office, including interacting with students/parents and assisting the Campus Director/Teachers as needed.


Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks

  • Open and distribute mail, assemble related material for use by supervisor in answering mail, and answer routine inquiries. Interview callers, make and cancel appointments, and answer questions.
  • Operate electronic programmed equipment used in the preparation of typed documents, working from drafts and transcribed data. Prepare correspondence, articles, reports, and specifications.
  • Keep complex clerical records and prepare reports from a variety of material and resources.
  • Process enrollments and withdrawals of students.
  • Complete daily attendance procedures and reporting.
  • Monitor expenditures and income against the budgets, maintain accurate accounting records and facilitate monthly reconciliations.
  • Use sound decision-making and initiative in absence of supervisor.
  • Manage the daily operations of the campus front office.


Required/Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Five (5) years of related experience required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or a field closely related to the specific endeavor of the department preferred.
  • More than three (3) years of secretarial experience preferred.
  • Experience with Skyward Student information software preferred.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent customer service skills both in-person and over the phone.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment.
  • Strong ability to multi-task and work with many interruptions.
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment.
  • Ethical with ability to maintain confidential information.

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
